Gas nitriding

Engineer the surface, with controlled nitrogen potential.

What is gas nitriding?Gas nitriding is a surface treatment that introduces nitrogen into suitable alloys. Atmosphere conditions, temperature and time are coordinated to develop the required surface properties.

The variables behind the result

Nitriding potential, often written Kₙ, characterizes the nitriding tendency of a gas atmosphere. Its interpretation depends on the gas analysis and process conditions. Temperature, gas flow and the recipe remain part of the control problem.

Start with these requirements

  • Alloy suitability and surface preparation
  • Nitriding potential and gas composition
  • Temperature, treatment time and media flow
  • Required compound layer and diffusion zone

Build the equipment conversation

Start with the material and required outcome, then identify the atmosphere, measurement and control functions needed. Review candidate products with Gauss before selecting a configuration.

How do I choose the right control equipment?

Document the recipe, measurement points, existing furnace interfaces and records you need. Use these to review the product capabilities with an application engineer.

Does a controller guarantee the final material result?

No. Results also depend on the alloy, load, furnace condition, process route and verification method. A validated recipe and appropriate testing are needed.
