Annealing

Create the atmosphere for the next manufacturing step.

What is annealing?Annealing uses a controlled thermal cycle to change a material’s condition for a subsequent manufacturing step. Where a protective atmosphere is used, its composition must be selected for the alloy and surface requirements.

The variables behind the result

Begin with the desired material condition and surface acceptance criteria. The atmosphere-generation method, monitoring equipment and furnace cycle should then be reviewed together.

Start with these requirements

  • Material condition before and after treatment
  • Required surface condition
  • Protective atmosphere compatibility
  • Thermal-cycle records and production integration

Build the equipment conversation

Start with the material and required outcome, then identify the atmosphere, measurement and control functions needed. Review candidate products with Gauss before selecting a configuration.

How do I choose the right control equipment?

Document the recipe, measurement points, existing furnace interfaces and records you need. Use these to review the product capabilities with an application engineer.

Does a controller guarantee the final material result?

No. Results also depend on the alloy, load, furnace condition, process route and verification method. A validated recipe and appropriate testing are needed.
